Overview

When a disk in the x360Recover backup storage pool fails but the RAID set remains intact, the appliance enters a degraded state. This procedure describes how to safely replace the failed disk and restore the storage pool to an online state.

Prerequisites and Important Notes

  • The RAID must not be fully failed (e.g., no more than one disk failed in RAID5, or two in RAID6).
  • The replacement disk must be equal in size of the failed disk.
  • Sector size (logical/physical) must match the original disk configuration.
  • If the RAID controller does not support JBOD passthrough, disks must be recreated as RAID0.

Replace a failed disk

  1. Log in to the x360Recover appliance web interface and navigate to: Manage Storage > Storage Pool > Failed Disk.
  2. Confirm the disk shows a failed status.
  3. Identify the Serial Number of the failed disk. Run 'Ishw-c disk' in the appliance's terminal (SSH) to get the Serial Number of all installed disks, including the failed disk.
  4. Shut down the appliance. x360Recover BDR, Controller Mapping, and ZFS pool configuration are expected to be discovered at boot.
  5. Physically remove the failed disk from the appliance and install the replacement disk.
  6. Power on the appliance/BDR.
  7. Return to the web interface for x360Recover.
  8. Navigate to Manage Storage > Storage Pool and expand the Unused Disk(s) section to verify the new disk is detected and available.
  9. Go back to the Failed Disk(s) section and click the Replace button next to the failed disk.

  10. In the replacement dialog, select the correct Unused Disk and click Replace to confirm the replacement.
  11. Monitor the resilvering process under Storage Status. The pool shows rebuilding activity during this time.
  12. After resilvering completes successfully, verify that the storage pool state returns to Online.
