Auto Update Best Practices

We recommend that Enable Auto Update is enabled on the Settings -> Update Manager page on each of your x360Recover devices. 

We also recommend that you enable Auto-Enable Remote Assist When Upgrading so that remote access will be available to our development team should something go wrong with your upgrade.

  • This will ensure that your x360Recover devices are updated with the latest software enhancements in a timely fashion, and that the Support team will have a short window of time to access and repair any troublesome devices without requiring user intervention.

Convert between appliance mode and Direct-to-Cloud mode

x360Recover 10.6.1 and Agent 2.27 now allow the conversion of existing protected systems between appliance / BDR mode and Direct-to-Cloud mode.

  • To convert an existing appliance-based protected system to Direct-to-Cloud mode, you may uninstall the current agent (without deleting the agent folder or configuration files) and then reinstall the agent in Direct-to-Cloud mode.
  • To convert an existing Direct-to-Cloud protected system to appliance mode, deploy an appliance at your customer location, perform a ‘Recovery’ of the system from the vault (via network or USB) and update the agent settings to target the appliance.

Direct-to-Cloud support for Private Cloud vaults

Previously, x360Recover release 10.4.0 introduced support for Direct-to-Cloud backups to Axcient-hosted cloud vaults.  With this release, we are extending this functionality to self-hosted Private Cloud vaults as well.

Support for Direct-to-Cloud has specific requirements for public accessibility via FQDN name and firewall ports.  Consult this knowledgebase article for detailed instructions on prerequisites and steps needed to enable Direct-to-Cloud support on your Private Cloud vaults. 

Smart Recovery

Smart Recovery is an enhancement to the way protected systems are virtualized or otherwise recovered from an x360Recover appliance or vault.  x360Recover 10.6.1 introduces Smart Recovery for virtualization, iSCSI, and bare metal restores.  (x360Recover10.7.0 will extend Smart Recovery support for virtual disk exports.)

Traditionally, when performing the recovery of an x360Recover protected system, only simple disks are returned by the system.  Each volume is returned on its own individual virtual disk, regardless of the original topology of the source protected system.  This causes difficulties in recovering to a physical machine when multiple volumes were originally stored on a single physical disk.

With Smart Recovery, the original protected system physical disk topology is reconstructed, making it possible to restore protected systems with complex disk layouts simply and easily. This also resolves multiple issues preventing such systems from booting correctly as virtual machines.
