After you deploy your first appliance to a customer site, you will likely want to set up a vault to host off-site replication.
The vault plays a critical role in the x360Recover solution, storing data that has been replicated by the appliance. The vault can be hosted in the Axcient Storage Cloud or it can sit in your own Private Cloud location. Either way, off-site replication is the best way to avoid catastrophic data loss and downtime.
Most new partners start with one vault. As you grow your MSP business, you might need to provision additional vault servers. If you are vaulting to the Axcient Cloud, our Support team will monitor your storage usage and provision additional resources on your behalf.
Note: With the release of x360Recover 8.3.0, the Axcient Cloud will begin deploying Infinity Cloud, and multiple vaults will no longer be required. A single Infinity Cloud can manage and store your protected systems. Partners deploying Private Cloud vaults will still have to provision multiple vaults as they grow their business.
Role of the x360Recover vault
The x360Recover vault receives incoming protected system data that has been replicated from the appliance. Vaults are designed to be multi-tenant and provide all the same recovery options that the appliance provides on-site. Vaults, however, are typically deployed off-site.
Vaults provide the following functionality:
- Holds Protected System backup data for multiple customer sites.
- Provides the Web Management interface for Cloud Recovery.
- Hosts the virtual machine environment for Disaster Recovery.
Consider vault options
As a x360Recover partner, you can choose to host a vault in your own Private Cloud datacenter or request a vault in the Axcient Storage Cloud. Most partners choose to host their vault in the Axcient Storage Cloud.
You can also use a combination of both self-hosted and Axcient-hosted vaults.
Option 1: Vault to the Axcient Storage Cloud
The Axcient Storage Cloud provides a highly-scalable hosted environment, giving you affordable off-site backup storage and multiple recovery options. For example, in the event of a disaster, you can choose to restore to your local environment via download, shipped disk, or cloud recovery.

What to consider
You can request a vault in the Axcient Storage Cloud through your Partner Success Manager or by contacting Axcient Support. After your vault is provisioned, you will receive vault and Global Management Portal login credentials.

Option 2: Vault to your private cloud
While most partners choose to vault to the Axcient Storage Cloud, you can also vault to your own Private Cloud datacenter. If you already maintain your own datacenter, this option might be right for you.
What to consider
If you choose to vault to a Private Cloud datacenter, you will need to perform the following tasks:
- Select hardware that meets x360Recover's minimum hardware requirements.
- Install the x360Recover software onto this hardware.
- Configure a dedicated Public IP address for each vault, or you will need to configure a third-party VPN tunnel solution to route traffic from your Appliances.
- Install and maintain your own Global Management Portal (we will learn more about the Global Management Portal in future lessons).
Option 3: vault to the Axcient Cloud and your private cloud (combination)
While most new partners only need one vault, partners who choose to vault to their own Private Cloud datacenter might eventually decide they need additional support in the Axcient Storage Cloud.
If you would like to request a vault in the Axcient Storage Cloud, please contact your Partner Success Manager or Axcient Support.

If you choose to vault to your own Private Cloud, you must ensure the hardware meets the following minimum recommended requirements:

Private cloud requirements
If you choose to vault to a Private Cloud datacenter, you will need to select hardware that meets x360Recover's minimum hardware requirements and install the x360Recover software.
Vault hardware requirements are the same as appliance hardware requirements; however, because the vault is designed for multitenancy, we recommend significantly more memory, CPU, and storage resources than a typical appliance.
Please consider the following before configuring your Private Cloud vault:
- We highly recommend you install the x360Recover software on bare metal for the best performance and reliability.
- The Software/Hardware RAID controllers available on some motherboards are not supported by Linux and can be used only in IDE/SATA mode.
- Unless you are using SAN storage, we recommend using the Software RAID provided by the device rather than a Hardware RAID controller. The native ZFS Software RAID used by x360Recover is more robust than typical hardware RAID. Additionally, the x360Recover GUI will not alert you about faulted disks or failed disk replacement when using Hardware RAID.
- Single-disk installations from a x360Recover appliance or vault (where both the Operating System and customer data co-exist on a single drive) are not supported for Bring-Your-Own Hardware (BYOD) solutions.
- You will need to configure a dedicated Public IP address or a third-party VPN tunnel solution to route traffic from your appliance. We recommend creating a dedicated Public IP address.
