Many partners choose to deploy BDR hardware with remote management capabilities to enhance their ability to troubleshoot and manage systems without having to dispatch a technician on site.

Most models of Axcient branded BDR appliances include an industry standard Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) controller, which provides remote power management and KVM (keyboard-video-mouse) functionality.

In the event that you have lost login access to your device’s IPMI interface, it is possible to reset user passwords remotely, provided you have access to the operating system shell as the root user.

      IPMITOOL

IPMITOOL is a Linux utility installed by default as part of the x360Recover operating system. It is designed to manage and configure motherboard Management Interface controllers.

IPMITOOL works with most management controllers including industry standard IPMI controllers like SuperMicro, as well as HP iLo and Dell iDrac controllers.

      1. List the accounts on the system

To begin, you will list the Management Interface user accounts currently configured on the system:

Ipmitool user list <controller id>  (Controller ID is typically 1 or 2)

      2. Reset passwords

To reset the password for any account, you will use the set password option:

Ipmitool user set password <ID#> [<password>]

Reference the list of users from the previous step to identify the user ID.

Although you may optionally include the password in a single command line, it is recommended that you omit it, in which case you will be prompted to enter the password twice in a secure fashion.

Once you have reset the password, you should have immediate login access to the web interface of your IPMI controller.
