Overview

x360Recover has built-in support for handling Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) within a Microsoft Failover Server cluster.

In this special operating mode, a disk volume may be shared by (and simultaneously accessible from) multiple servers, but only a single server within the cluster acting as the master node for the volume is eligible for backup operations.

The agent and appliance have been enhanced to recognize Cluster Shared Volumes and handle them consistently for backup and recovery operations.

Backup and recovery complications with Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV)

It is expected that the master node assignment for any volume will change from time to time, so eventually all servers within the cluster will occasionally be the one taking backups of the volume.

x360Recover still recognizes each individual node within the Failover Cluster as a separate protected system, so each server will back up and maintain its own copy of the volume data.

Since only the master node can perform backups, you will need to be aware of which server had control of the volume at a given time when recovering data from Cluster Shared Volumes. For details on identifying which volumes were included in a backup, see How to view details about cluster shared volumes (CSV).

Virtualization of a Failover Cluster Server is complex. See this article for details on handling the various recovery cases involving Cluster Shared Volumes and Failover Cluster Server: Virtualization and recovery of failover clusters.

Enable agent support for Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV)

Agent orchestration settings within the appliance are used to control and manage the Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) support on the agent.

1. From the Protected System Details page, click the Agent button and expand the Advanced Settings section to manage CSV support.

2. Click to enable the CSV toggle, set the value to On and click Save.

Note: if your protected system has an access password assigned, you will also need to enter the password before clicking Save. Monitor the agent configuration update from the Jobs -> Agent page.
