This guide will demonstrate the steps required to send backups taken with the Veeam® Agent for Windows to the Axcient cloud. This guide assumes that all required Veeam software is already installed and properly licensed. It also assumes that the reader is already familiar with the process of sending virtual machines to the Axcient cloud using Veeam Backup & Replication.
This guide will cover two configuration options:
- Option #1: Back up to a Veeam Repository in the Axcient Cloud (Recommended)
- Option #2: Back up directly to the Axcient cloud

Option #1: Back up to a Veeam Repository in the Axcient Cloud (Recommended)
=====================================================
The recommended method for configuring the Veeam Agent for Windows is to backup to the Axcient cloud. This method allows for a local backup to be retained onsite while a Backup Copy Job is used to send the backups to the Axcient cloud.
This process requires that Veeam Backup & Replication be installed, configured with the Axcient Cloud Connect service provider, and properly licensed for use with the Veeam Agent for Windows.
1. Open the local Veeam Backup & Replication console and go to the Backup Infrastructure Section.
2. Under Backup Repositories, select the Veeam repository you would like to use for Agent backups and click the Access Permissions button at the top.
3. Select either Allow to everyone or Allow to the following accounts or groups only.
4. Check the box for Encrypt backups stored in this repository and select the encryption key you would like to use from the drop-down menu. If you do not have an encryption key, you can create one by clicking Add.
5. Click OK.
6. Open the Veeam Agent for Windows on the physical machine you want to backup.
7. Click Configure backup.
8. Select Entire computer and click Next.
- Select Veeam backup repository, then click Next.
- Enter the DNS name or IP address of your local Veeam server as well as the credentials to authenticate against it.
- Click Next.
- Use the drop-down menu to select the Veeam repository you want to use and select the number of recovery points you want to keep. Then, click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Select the schedule you would like to use for this Agent backup job and click Apply.
- Click OK on the warning about wake up timers.
- Review the summary and click Finish.
The agent is now configured to create local backups to the selected Veeam repository and is now available to be used as a source for a backup copy job to the Axcient cloud.
If you are not familiar with the process of creating backup copy jobs to an Axcient cloud vault, please review the Axcient BDR for Veeam Setup Guide:

Option #2: Back Up Directly to the Axcient Cloud
=====================================================
This method can be used in the event there is no suitable local storage available to hold the agent backup data. You will need to create the tenant object on the desired Axcient Cloud Vault prior to performing these steps. Instructions on how to create the tenant object can be found on page 5 of the Axcient BDR for Veeam Cloud Connection Guide.
1. Launch the Veeam Agent for Windows application and click the About tab.
- If this is a fresh install, the Agent will be set to the Free Edition. Click the Update license to get additional features link to apply either a workstation or server license. If you already have the license applied, skip to step 6.
- Click Install.
- Browse to your Veeam Agent license file, select it and click Open.
- The Agent will automatically select the correct type of license based on the version of Windows you have installed. Click Close.
- Return to the Status tab and click Configure backup.
- Select Entire computer and click Next.
- Select Veeam Cloud Connect repository and click Next.
- Enter the address of the Axcient Cloud Target you want to use and click Next.
- If you get a security alert about the certificate, click Continue.
- Enter the Username and Password for the tenant and click Next.
- Select the number of Restore points to keep and click the Advanced button.
- Go to the Storage tab and check the box to Enable backup file encryption.
- Enter what you would like to use as your encryption key and click OK.
- Click Next.
16. Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Select the schedule you would like to use for this Agent backup job and click Apply.
- Click OK on the warning about wake up timers.
- Review the summary and click Finish.
The Veeam Agent is now configured to backup directly to your Axcient Cloud Vault.
