What happened?
Starting in late November 2018, Axcient began shipping a new generation of hardware to support the next generation development of our BRC Business Continuity solution.
This next generation hardware was OEM from Dell (PowerEdge 13G and 14G servers) and was branded as Axcient.
Why was this switch made?
HP ended support for their Generation 9 hardware. In doing this, they completely removed availability of their Tower and 1U rack models, leaving a hole in our hardware fulfilment strategy. Equivalent HP Generation 10 models cost from 50-200% more than G9 models. Moving to the Dell platform increased the capability over the HP G9 platform without the significant price increase.
How did this impact security?
Positively! Dell’s enhanced cyber-resilient architecture is built-in, not bolted on. This means users can enjoy data protection that was built with security as its foundation.
What hardware was used?
Hardware used the Next Gen Intel Xeon Processor and an optional 10Gb Network card.
Dell hardware produces less heat, operates more quietly, and requires less energy.
Did this impact manageability?
Since this change, you can now monitor and control power down to the VM.
Dell EMC will feature OpenManage Mobile 2.0, iDRAC, Quick Sync 2 and HTML5.
The add-in hardware module allows seamless server access and management via mobile devices with BLE or Wifi.
What will happen to current HP Field Hardware Deployments?
There will be no change to deployments currently in the field.
What is Dell's warranty on this hardware?
Dell's 4-hour ProSupport Warranty with Keep Your Own Hard Drive (KYOHD) is included with the hardware purchase and does not need to be purchased separately. [See details here:]
