Allocating Licenses

As a Replibit partner, you have access to two distinct licensing models:

  • Endpoint licensing, and

  • Storage licensing.

All Axcient Replibit licensing is based on a monthly recurring per-device (Endpoint licensing) or per-storage-size (Storage licensing) model.

Endpoint Licensing

Endpoint licenses come in two classes: Workstation and Server. For example, a Windows 10 operating system requires a Workstation license and a Windows Server 2012 operating system require a Server license.

Each Location can be assigned any number of Endpoint Server and Workstation licenses, which allows you to back up the specified number of Protected Systems (Workstation or Server). Endpoint licenses are consumed automatically by Protected Systems when an Agent is installed, and the Protected System checks in with the Appliance.

Note

Billing is based on the number of licenses assigned to the Location, regardless of whether the license is in use by a Protected System.

Cloud Storage

Bundled Endpoint Licenses

If you choose to replicate to the Axcient Cloud Vault, your Endpoint licenses come bundled with a Cloud Storage allotment in the Axcient Cloud. Each Server license includes 2TB of data and each Workstation license includes 200GB of data. Storage is pooled at the Partner level, allowing you to distribute data to Customers as needed. Each Protected System replicated to the Axcient Cloud, whether Server or Workstation, will be billed at the Bundled license rate.

Private Cloud Endpoint Licenses

If you choose not to replicate to the Axcient Cloud (for example, if you decide  you do not want to replicate data or if you decide to replicate to your own Private Cloud datacenter) you will be billed at the Self-Hosted or Local-Only rate and your licenses will not come bundled with a Cloud Storage allotment in the Axcient Cloud.

Note

When licenses are assigned within the Replibit Licensing Portal, please note that there is no distinction between a Bundled Endpoint license and a Private Cloud Endpoint license. You will be billed based on whether a Protected System is replicated to the Axcient Cloud.

Billing

You will be billed on the last day of the month based on the number of Workstation and Server licenses assigned to all Customers, whether they are in use or not. Charges for Endpoint licensing are not prorated. For example, a Server license assigned on the 23rd of the month will incur billing for the entire month for that Endpoint.

Storage Licensing

Storage licenses allow you to back up an unlimited number of Protected Systems to a single Appliance, up to the storage license limit assigned to the Appliance.

Note

The assigned Storage license does not need to match the maximum storage capacity of the Appliance. For example, you can purchase a 6TB Pro BDR Appliance and initially license it with only 3TB of data until you require the additional capacity.

Appliance Storage

Appliance storage limit options include:.5TB,1TB, 2TB, 3TB, 4TB, 6TB, 9TB, 12TB, 15TB, 18TB, 24TB, 30TB, and 36TB. Storage licenses can be assigned to both Axcient-branded BDR Appliances and build-your-own appliances.

Cloud Storage

Each Storage license comes bundled with unlimited cloud storage in the Axcient Cloud, with a fixed retention period of either 3 years or 10 years. For example, when purchasing Storage- license for an Appliance, you might select 1TB of local storage with 3 years of retention in the cloud or 2TB of local storage with 10 years retention in the cloud, and so forth.

Storage licenses always include Axcient Cloud storage and are always considered Bundled licensing.  There is no price difference if you decide to vault to your Private Cloud datacenter.

Billing

You will be billed monthly based on your selected storage and retention period. Charges for Storage licensing are prorated. For example, a Server license assigned on the 23rd of the month will only incur billing for the remainder of the month.

Selecting the Right Licensing Model

When considering licensing models, you should note the number and size of devices that you want to protect:

  • Endpoint Licensing is best suited for Locations that have fewer Protected Systems with larger storage requirements.

  • Storage Licensing is best suited for Locations that have many Protected Systems with smaller storage requirements.

With Axcient Replibit, you are free to choose between either licensing models to best meet your needs, but only one pricing model (Endpoint or Storage) can be assigned to a single Location at one time. You can also change licensing models at any point by removing all licenses from a Location and then assigning the new licenses as needed.

Note

Pricing of Replibit licensing varies based on a tiered usage scale. Specific pricing will not be covered within this guide, except in general terms. Please consult the latest Axcient Replibit Pricing Guide for current pricing information.

Assigning Licenses

After you have created a Customer and at least one Location, the next step is to assign licenses to that Location.

To assign licenses:

  2. Locate the appropriate Customer and Location within the main window. Optionally, use the Search field to search by Customer name or Location. Customers and Locations are case sensitive.

Note: Customers with more than one Location will appear in the list multiple times. Ensure that you have selected the correct Location when managing licenses.

Note

Endpoint licenses are cumulative; you can add additional license packs over time to meet your needs.

Endpoint license billing isnot prorated. Billing occurs on the last day of the month for all licenses that are allocated to a Location, regardless of whether the license is in use by a Protected System.

Removing Licenses

You can change licensing models at any point in time. When updating licensing models, consider the following:

  • Endpoint licenses are cumulative; you can add additional license packs over time to meet your needs.

  • You can only assign one Storage license at a time to a Location.

  • Endpoint and Storage licenses are mutually exclusive, you can only assign one or the other to a Location.

If you need to switch licensing models, you will first need to remove all assigned licenses and then add the new license type.

Note

If you are Replicating Protected Systems to the Axcient Cloud and you remove a Protected System from an Appliance, you will also need to delete the Protected System from the Vault to avoid future billing. Any Protected System remaining in the Axcient Cloud will be billed a full month at the Bundled Endpoint license rate, whether it still exists on its original Appliance or not.

  1. From the Replibit License Management left pane menu, click to expand User Management and then select Licenses.

    image14.png
  2. Locate the appropriate Customer and Location within the main window.

  3. Click the Manage button. The Manage Location window displays.

  4. Find the license you would like to remove and click the Delete button. You can remove a Protected System from the Axcient Cloud from the Vault Web interface.

  5. Alternatively, you can remove a Protected System from the Appliance Web interface, which allows you to also delete the Protected System from the Vault.
